Bloggers Stop Blogging

Do you ever wonder sometimes what happened to some of the blogs you were visiting? Maybe you tried to pay them a visit, but had no success? Maybe the blog seemed to be offline, or there were no updates for a few months? To tell you the truth, from time to time some of my friends from the blogosphere give up and abandon their blog for many different reasons. Often they have valuable content on their site, so it is sad that they will not add anything new. However, it is important to understand that blogging is not always easy. I am sure that many abandoned blogs still receive traffic to their blog even though they are not blogging anymore. Anyway, I think the reason many blogs are abandoned is that blogging requires a lot of time, and you cannot really force anyone to do it. You need passion for blogging, and if there is a lack of passion or time, usually blogs fail. Blogging is quite demanding, so I have respect for those bloggers who keep blogging even though there are often many obstacles in the way. However, I do not want to discourage you from blogging, because even though it is often not as easy as it sounds, it is a very rewarding experience.

Scheduled Post Publishing

Some time ago I was discussing the benefits of schedules post publishing. Until quite recently this feature was not available on many platforms like, for example, Blogger. Nonetheless, it seems that Blogger platform is getting better, and has more features with each passing month. Last year Blogger introduced scheduled post posting, and I am very happy about that. That is because WordPress will not be the only blogging platform with many features. The more high quality blogging platforms there are available, the better for bloggers. Of course, it is not that easy for other blogging platforms to compete with WordPress.

Schedule post publishing has many advantages, and the most apparent one is to schedule your posts when you are going on vacation, or taking a day or two off. When you are on vacation you should not be worried about your blog, and this feature will make it possible for you to be more relaxed during holidays. You will be able to schedule a post to be published before going on a vacation, and this way you will not have to worry about your blog at all. Those bloggers who use this feature are very happy that they discovered it, so perhaps you may also want to consider using it.

Choosing the Topic for Your Blog

There are many decisions a blogger has to make. When it comes to blogging, an important decision that bloggers have to face is choosing a niche topic for their blog. Some people do it consciously, others do it without even knowing it, but all of us in some way decide what do we want to blog about. It is tempting to choose a niche topic that we believe is popular, as we will expect many visitors to come to our website. Unfortunately, this is not always true, as starting a blog about politics would normally attract many people, but you should take into account that the competition is very steep. That is why it is a good idea to consider different niches, even those that you think nobody would be interested in. Personally, I do not believe that there is a niche which no one is interested in. Go to your local library, and take a look at home many magazines are available, and you must agree that many of the topics do not seem interesting to an average person like bathroom magazines for example. Having said that, if magazines like this exist on the market, it means that there is a need for them. This applies to blogs as well. Choose a topic that you like, and I am sure there are going to be people that will like it as well.

Setting Goals for Your Website

One of the ways to keep yourself accountable is to set some goals for your website. This is an excellent way to measure your achievements, but remember that your goals should be time-sensitive and specific. Here are some examples, which should help you get started:

• Obtain a Page Rank4 within a year. It can be any other number, as this is only an example. You can easily check your Page Rank so this also means that you can easily check on your progress.

• Obtain an Alexa rank of 100,000 within 2 months. While it might require a lot of work, you will have a lot of satisfaction if you achieve such a goal.

• Have an affiliate program revenue of $100 per month within three months. Take into account that affiliate revenue can fluctuate a lot. Nonetheless, it is possible to add up all of your affiliate income and see how you are progressing.

As you see in the examples above those are quite specific goals, and you will be easily able to say if you indeed achieved your goal or not, which is very important. You can also measure to what degree you accomplished some goal in percentages. Some people even set goals for themselves every month and say that it keeps them motivated. My personal advice is not to set goals to high, so that you will not get disappointed. Of course, realizing hard to achieve goals can be a very rewarding experience so it might be worth a try.

Can I write this article?

One question every writer should ask himself prior to writing any article is the following: am I able to write this article? You will save a lot of time if you realize fast enough that you are not able to write an article because you lack knowledge about the subject. Nothing is worse than realizing that you are unable to write on the subject after already writing the majority of the article. Not being able to complete an article is one of the worst things that can happen to a writer. It is not such a good thing to happen because it is not good to start something and not be able to finish it.

Hosting a Blog on Your Own Domain

This time I would like to write about advantages and disadvantages of blogs hosted on your own domain name:
-You will have to pay for the domain name and for hosting your domain. This can amount to approximately $150 per year, but it varies depending on which hosting plan you will choose.
-If your blog is hosted on Blogspot you can incorporate AdSense, but Google will take part of the profit. However, you will not need to share your profit with Google if you decide to have your own domain.
-Other bloggers might show more respect towards bloggers who have their blog hosted on their own domain. That is because they might assume that such a blogger is more serious about blogging.
-If you have your own domain, you have a lot higher possibility to fully customize your blog. However, it might require some html and php knowledge. Make sure you learn some basic html before you decide to host your own blog.

I will leave you to make your own conclusions about hosting, because it really depends on circumstances. Overall, if you are really serious about blogging you may eventually decide to host your blog on your own domain.

When to Stop Blogging

More and more people have websites and some people even have many websites. It is not uncommon for some people to have a dozen websites of their own. I think that it is great that someone has many websites, but it is important to keep some things in mind. Basically, I would recommend not to start too many websites if you do not have time to update them from time to time. There are millions of websites on the Internet, but only those are popular which have interesting content and are regularly updated. That is why it might be better to have less sites, but simply update them more often.

Another question many bloggers keep asking themselves is when to stop blogging. They keep wondering whether they are successful as bloggers or not. They do not know that being a beginner blogger is not always easy. Since people do not know you and your work yet, they do not know if they should keep visiting your blog. You need to prove to them that your blog is worth visiting. This might take you some time, but it can be a rewarding process during which you are going to have a chance to make new friends and learn many interesting facts about blogging and other aspects of life. If you choose to give up on blogging to early, you risk losing all those readers you encouraged to keep visiting your blog.

The Art of Blogrolling

You might be unfamiliar with the term blogrolling. In case you are indeed unfamiliar with it, let me here explain to you that this fancy term is used to describe sharing links via blogs. You might be wondering at this point what the point of trading links is. By trading links with other blogs from your niche, you can get more traffic to your website and you can get more page views. If you are one of those webmasters who have a good set of blogrolling links, you should expect to receive more traffic to your blog. You can also help those blogs who appear on your blogroll receive more traffic.

How to Protect Your Laptop

I saw a few people in the park today using their laptops. Most of them did not have any laptop bags with them. I believe that they do not realize how such bags can be helpful to them and how they can help them use their laptops longer. No laptop will last forever. If you value your laptop, you will want to make sure that it is protected from anything bad that can happen to it. An unprotected laptop is more likely to get damaged than one that has a bag all over it. I know it from my experience, as I used to have a laptop in the past. I still have it, but I do not use it anymore. If one day I am going to start using it again, I will buy a laptop bag for it.

Polaroid-Style Thumbnails

“Polaroid on the Fly” plug-in is a unique plug-in for WordPress that is capable of creating Polaroid-style thumbnails within your posts. It has been discussed many times that incorporating pictures in your blog often results in a blog looking more attractive. There is no reason not to use images from time to time. With this plug-in you can incorporate cool Polaroid images, so that your pictures stand out from all of the rest of the images found on the blogosphere. If you have been recently wondering how to make your blog look more appealing, then this plug-in might be what you were looking for.

It might be worth mentioning that even though images can enhance your blog, it is important to take into account the loading speed of your blog. The more picture you have, the longer it will take for your site to load. While this might not be a problem for those with an unlimited broadband connection, anyone who is still on dial-up will have a hard time browsing your site.

I would also like to add that blogs in some niches are more “image-friendly” than others. What I mean is that sites like, for example, business blogs should focus on having valuable content, rather than having many images.
